An audition for the main orchestra is guaranteed to those who have reached a standard equivalent to Grade V111 or above. Applicants need not have taken an examination but must be prepared to demonstrate their abilities at an audition and to provide a recommendation from their teacher.

Auditioning will take place in the autumn at centres throughout the country. If you are successful in your audition you will be accepted for the year and we expect you to attend both the Easter and Summer courses.

The age range for the main Orchestra is from 15 to 21 at Grade VIII with distinction, and for the new Training Orchestra it is 14+ at Grade V to VII

There is a £10 administration charge to audition - please send a cheque for £10 (made payable to NYWO) along with your application. You may also pay the £10 fee at

For the Main orchestra we require at audition Grade eight with distinction or equivalent. You need not have taken an examination but if not we require a recommendation from your teacher

Costs for the main orchestra are £450 per course to include all accommodation, food, tuition and leisure activities.

If you are accepted at audition your attendance will be required for two courses Easter and summer each year.

Focus On Chamber Music Courses and saxophone courses- Grades four to seven

If you are offered a place at audition on the Focus On Chamber Music Courses you will be accepted for the year which means attendance at both the Easter and the summer courses

FEES MAYBE PAID BY INSTALLMENTS

You may ask for an attendance form after each course to send to your local authority who may help with fees.

A limited number of bursaries are awarded each year to talented musicians  not usually given in the first year.
